Students examine physical, cognitive, social, and emotional development from infancy through late
adulthood, with particular attention to the impact of cultural, environmental, and genetic influences.
Emphasis is placed on developmental theories, major transitions, and the application of developmental
principles to clinical and counseling settings.
This course explores the psychological, biological, and cultural dimensions of human sexuality. Topics
include sexual identity, orientation, relationships, gender roles, and the psychology of intimacy. Students
will critically examine issues related to sexual health, dysfunction, and societal attitudes toward sexuality,
as well as approaches to counseling and therapy in the domain of sexual behavior.
An advanced study of abnormal behavior and mental disorders, this course examines diagnostic criteria,
symptomatology, and theoretical perspectives on psychopathology. Students will analyze case studies,
evaluate current research, and explore the application of the DSM in clinical practice. Attention is given
to cultural considerations, ethical concerns, and evidence-based treatment approaches.
This course introduces students to the major theories and models of marriage and family therapy.
Emphasis is placed on systems theory, communication patterns, and family dynamics. Students learn to
assess family structures and apply therapeutic interventions that address relational challenges, cultural
contexts, and developmental issues within family systems.
This course examines the psychological, biological, and social aspects of substance abuse and addiction.
Students will explore theories of addiction, prevention strategies, and evidence-based counseling
techniques for individuals and families. The role of co-occurring disorders, relapse prevention, and
ethical considerations in treatment are highlighted.
An in-depth exploration of clinical psychology as both a science and a profession. Students will study
diagnostic assessment, treatment planning, therapeutic modalities, and the integration of psychological
theory into clinical practice. The course emphasizes ethical practice, cultural competence, and the
application of research findings to client care.
This course provides advanced training in research methodology, statistical analysis, and experimental
design as applied to psychology. Students will gain experience in formulating research questions,
evaluating scientific literature, and applying qualitative and quantitative methods. Ethical considerations
and the development of research proposals are emphasized.
This course examines psychological development and challenges associated with adulthood and aging.
Topics include cognitive changes, memory, health psychology, retirement, grief, and socio-emotional
development in later life. Students will consider cultural perspectives on aging and explore interventions
designed to enhance quality of life for older adults.
Students will develop knowledge and skills for facilitating group counseling sessions in various settings.
The course explores theories of group dynamics, leadership styles, and therapeutic techniques. Special
attention is given to multicultural issues, ethical considerations, and strategies for addressing resistance,
conflict, and cohesion in group contexts.
The thesis serves as the capstone requirement for the Master of Psychology program. Under faculty
supervision, students will design, conduct, and defend an independent research project that contributes
to the field of psychology. The process develops skills in scholarly writing, research methodology, and
critical analysis.
